Funny, they complain if the religious men don't go to the IDF and they complain if they do. Some day we may just "get it" that we need achdut in our nation.

Terrible idea!! I would never want to be the "second wife" or even the first wife of many! Every woman wants her husband's exclusive love and attention. Why would a caring, good husband search out another wife? Is there trouble in Paradise? Is he looking for more non-niddah moments? Worrisome. Would you like to "settle" for some guy who thinks he can get "the best of both worlds" and is "willing" to marry you even though you are older and single?
Also, there is a good reason why co-wives are called "tzara" (narrow/trouble) in Hebrew.
The Islamic population, feh! The typical Islamic husband is not exactly what I would call a good role model for a healthy Jewish marriage!

Who's behind the ad? Color me somewhat skeptical; I don't think I've ever heard of any single women who'd rather co-wife than stay single. But I HAVE read several such letters, all penned tongue-in-cheek by teenaged boys with too much time on their hands.

Children these days are putting sugar in their mouths all the time. The schools, who are feeding the students, must be responsible for what they feed them. I hope the Health Ministry gives guidelines to schools of what foods they can serve. A well-balanced diet with lots of fruits and vegetables is most welcome.

Why is Israel importing diapers from Turkey? Turkey wants Israel to apologize for the flotilla incident, and Israel wants to have economic relations with Turkey?!?!?!?!? No, Turkey should come crawling to Israel, begging forgiveness for allowing its citizens to attack the IDF with weapons and attempting to illegally enter Gaza and import illegal items. Then, Turkey should beg to renew diplomatic ties and have economic ties and export diapers to Israel. Furthermore, the diapers manufactured in Turkey do not meet Israel standards. Who wants a diaper that leaks? Not me, and not my wife, and not our baby. Let's be proud of our country, wait for Turkey to beg for forgiveness, and not import sub-standard diapers. They can donate those to the so-called "humanitarian crises" in Gaza.

I've had that feeling, too, as an instinctive reaction. "What, she's only 28? I could have sent that email/ made that quip/ asked that question!" And it's always somewhat unsettling to realize this: that I've subconsciously been holding back, weighing every action and word, in an attempt to keep to what I think is my place. Because really, who cares? So what if Coworker really is 35, not 28? At some point I've got to accept myself as a Real Adult --or, at the very least, become comfortable presenting myself as a professional -- and not always feel like the kid who's somehow stolen her way into a Real Job and has to hope her boss never asks to see her credentials.

So, when DO I become an adult? Let me know if you ever figure that one out.

Thank you for correctly reporting on the life of my rosh yeshiva. So many reports have him going to China or Australia because of the wrong WikiPedia information. He was a wonderful rebi, rosh yeshiva, a tzadik who cared deeply for his talmidim and person who you only needed to watch to feel inspired.

Ditto to that! There are soo many things that I need to get from the States, but if I could somehow go, get everything, and see everyone in the shortest amount of time possible, that would be ideal. Because as much as things are nice, and we may "need" them all, it's not home. There's something special about living here that no amount of gadgets and gizmos can make up for. Plus, I would lose them all anyway!

On my most recent trip back to the States, I spent an obscene amount of time and money at Walmart. There's definitely an appeal to that all-under-one-roof, rock-bottom prices thing.

But like you said, we're here because Israel is a land "naturally conducive to spiritual growth" --and I can't help but think that were we to have the same levels of consumerism, the same opportunities to amass endless quantities of (admittedly adorable!) stuff, that we wouldn't be able to maintain that focus on the eternal. Which is something I try to think about when I'm feeling lonely and missing Target.
